After months of preparation, you can now legally bet on sports in Illinois and the first bet has been placed.
In a produced event with several cameras and plenty of media, Eddie Olczyk made the first legal sports bet in Illinois at Rivers Casino in Des Plaines on Monday.
Olczyk placed his bet on the White Sox to win the American League pennant. He got 16-to-1 odds on the South Siders and placed $100 on the wager.
Rivers is the first casino in Illinois to open its sportsbook. Others are soon to follow.
Illinois is now the 15th state to have legal sports betting. Nearby Northwest Indiana casinos started legal sports betting last year in September. Now, Illinois has caught up.
Will Olczyk’s faith in the White Sox be rewarded?
