TA: 2021 Sox need ‘whoop these m—–f—–s' attitude

Last year, it was Dallas Keuchel’s mom revving the White Sox up with a little profanity.

Allow Tim Anderson to take the baton this spring.

The White Sox shortstop is ready for a 2021 season with championship aspirations on the South Side, and he believes he knows how this team can get it done.

Last year’s squad rode the most potent lineup in the American League and a couple elite starting pitchers to the franchise’s best winning percentage since the World Series campaign in 2005. Anderson thinks one little tweak can make it so this season finishes the same way that one did.

“It was too laid back,” Anderson said of the team’s attitude in 2020, talking to Our Chuck Garfien on the White Sox Talk Podcast. “We need that dog in us. We need some, ‘Let’s go out here and whoop these m-----f-----s.’

“We need that type of attitude versus like, ‘Are we going to win today?’ No. ‘Let’s go out here and whoop ‘em.’ It might be 10-0 in the first, let’s keep going. That type of winning, not just feel around and see what happens. From the first inning, let’s go.”

Certainly the 2020 White Sox were not short on energy, a lot of that thanks to Anderson. And they seemed to be doing another thing Anderson constantly preaches: having a lot of fun on the field.

But there’s no doubt that big change has come to the South Side, too, the biggest change being the new man sitting in the manager’s chair, Hall of Famer Tony La Russa. Whether it be the import of the three-time championship manager or a couple other guys with World Series rings on their fingers, like Lance Lynn and Adam Eaton, a theme of the White Sox offseason has been adding dependability and championship knowhow.

That could include the arrival of that attitude adjustment Anderson is searching for.

No matter what, the expectations on the South Side are clear. As hitting coach Frank Menechino said early in the offseason: It’s World Series or bust.
