The White Sox announced Friday that next year’s edition of SoxFest has been cancelled.
The team’s annual fan convention, which was scheduled for Jan. 22 and 23, 2021, at McCormick Place, will not happen due to the uncertainty of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
As people across the globe have been encouraged to practice social distancing and avoid large crowds to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, White Sox fans have had to be away from their favorite team since spring training. That separation has lasted throughout the 2020 season, with no fans allowed inside big league ballparks, and will now stretch past the typical gathering at the end of January.
The cancellation coming at the close of this particular season carries some extra sting, as White Sox fans were set to celebrate the franchise’s first playoff team in a dozen years.
The White Sox added in Friday’s announcement that they are looking into other ways to connect with their fans this winter and that there will be future updates regarding “virtual programming.”
