Eloy Jiménez set for rehab assignment at Winston-Salem

Injuries have ravaged the White Sox lineup all season long, but on Thursday the team announced they’re on track to get some firepower back soon.

While it’s hard to predict exactly when Jiménez would return to the South Side, many believe he could make his 2021 debut in late July or early August.

Jiménez initially injured his left pectoral muscle trying to rob a home run in Spring Training. It was the latest in a series of fluky injuries the left fielder has suffered while trying to play defense, and prompted questions of whether Jiménez would be better suited as a full-time DH.

Tony La Russa himself said he would consider keeping Jiménez in the batting lineup, but off of the diamond.

"There’s legitimate reasons to think of DH'ing him a lot," La Russa said earlier this week.

"That would be one way to get his bat in and not have to worry so much about his legs. At the same time, the way Mercedes was going, the spot was open for a while.

"I think the depth we have now in the outfield allows us to think about Eloy maybe getting a lot of swings as a DH."
