Jiménez hopes to return from injury ‘sooner than later'

Eloy Jiménez is progressing well in his rehabilitation from the torn right hamstring that has sidelined him since late April.

Says who? The Chicago White Sox outfielder himself.

"When I went down, I never thought nothing bad (or) that I could not play (for the rest of the season). I was just a little bit frustrated because I was feeling good, and then that happened," Jiménez said ahead of Tuesday night's matchup with the Cleveland Guardians. "Right now I’m feeling pretty good with the results that we have and hopefully I’ll be back sooner than later."

Jiménez suffered the injury while sprinting out a ground ball in the White Sox' April 23 loss to the Twins. On April 26, he underwent surgery to repair a torn hamstring tendon behind his right knee.

Two weeks later, he is sprinting and taking swings, both welcome developments.

"I don’t feel anything right now," Jiménez said when asked his pain level. "I feel good."

Asked to place a timeline on his return, Jiménez deflected to White Sox general manager Rick Hahn. Funny enough, Hahn on Monday provided an update on Jiménez's status, saying he remains on the six-to-eight week recovery pace the team estimated on the day of his surgery.

"Eloy was actually sprinting less than two weeks post-op, which is a testament to modern medicine and our training staff and him," Hahn said. "That's a positive."

There's no question Jiménez is missed in the middle of a White Sox' lineup that is producing just the 25th-most runs per game in MLB. He misses contributing too.

"I’m really excited," he said of his eventual return. "Try to get more healthy as I can and try to help the team. That’s what I like to do."

The sooner he can do that, the better.
