The White Sox' hiring of Tony La Russa sent fans into a frenzy on Thursday, but one well-known member of the South Side faithful is a fan of the move.
49ers quarterback and Chicagoland native Jimmy Garoppolo gave his stamp of approval to the La Russa hiring.
"I actually just saw that,” Garoppolo told reporters, including The Mercury News' Cam Inman. “My brothers, we’re all in group text, so they shot that out. I’m happy about it. It’s exciting.
“I really didn’t get to keep up with them much this year, with the crazy season and everything."
Garoppolo led San Francisco to the Super Bowl last season, and La Russa is now tasked with getting the White Sox, who snapped a 12-year postseason drought this fall, back to the World Series for the first time since 2005.
“But, yeah, White Sox all day, baby," Garoppolo said.
