Nick Madrigal helped off field with hamstring injury

It was another bad sight for the Chicago White Sox.

Nick Madrigal, the team's starting second baseman and hits leader, fell to the ground past first base after unsuccessfully attempting to leg out an infield single in the eighth inning of Wednesday night's game. After a visit from the trainer, he was helped off the field, not putting any weight on his right leg.

Shortly after he left, the White Sox updated Madrigal's injury as hamstring soreness, saying he'd be evaluated further Thursday.

It was a sight eerily reminiscent of Luis Robert making a similar trek from first base to the dugout, with assistance, after tearing his hip flexor in early May. Robert is expected to remain in recovery mode for months.

The White Sox have done well to keep their World Series hopes afloat without Robert and Eloy Jiménez, also out months after rupturing his pectoral tendon at the end of spring training. But injuries won't stop dogging the White Sox, who are without pitcher Michael Kopech and outfielder Billy Hamilton, both on the injured list.

Madrigal has been on a hot streak of late. He entered Wednesday's game the team leader with 60 hits and a .305 batting average, thanks to a .360/.415/.547 slash line in his last 20 games. He picked up an RBI double in Wednesday night's contest prior to leaving with the injury.
