White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease hires agent Scott Boras

After significantly raising the profile of his pitching career during a 2021 playoff season, White Sox starter Dylan Cease has raised the profile on his representation, if not potential career earnings, by hiring baseball's top-grossing agent, Scott Boras.

Cease, the former Cubs prospect, left the ACES agency of Sam and Seth Levinson after a 32-start season that included a 13-7 recored and 3.91 ERA for the American League Central champs.

The hard-throwing right-hander becomes arbitration eligible for the first time next winter, unless the players' union succeeds in its long-shot effort of moving the eligibility timeline up one year in the next collective bargaining agreement (currently being negotiated). The players have been locked out by Major League Baseball since the last CBA expired on Dec. 1.

Cease, 26, was acquired by the White Sox from the Cubs as a minor leaguer, along with outfielder Eloy Jimenez, in the 2017 Jose Quintana trade.

His significance for the World Series-minded White Sox increases into the 2022 season after Carlos Rodón's free agency departure and Dallas Keuchel's struggles in 2021.

Boras clients on the White Sox 40-man roster also include Keuchel and pitcher Jimmy Lambert.
