Lance Lynn let everyone know when he was acquired by the White Sox in December: He does not like coming out of games.
Apparently, that includes games that don't count.
Lynn made his Cactus League debut Thursday and put on a heck of a show, striking out three and not allowing a hit in his two innings of work.

Thing is, he would've preferred some more.

"It went well. I would have liked to have gone back out," he said. "I asked to go back out, but you know, it's early in spring here. Pitch-count wise, last live (batting practice session), I was more than I was today. So I was looking forward to going back out.
"But they've got a plan, and we're in a good spot and everything physically feels good. Looking forward to the next one."

After the trade with the Texas Rangers that brought him to the South Side, Lynn made it known that he's the type of pitcher who hates coming out of games, going as far as telling new White Sox pitching coach Ethan Katz that "we’ll probably get in some arguments about when to come out of the game."
Certainly, though, Lynn didn't give the Rangers much reason to want to lift him in his two seasons in Texas. He's been one of the best starting pitchers in baseball the last two years, and he established a workhorse status with a career-high 208.1 innings in 2019 and a league-leading 84 innings of work during the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign.
That said, even if Lynn is readying his new team for fights about his workload, he's thrilled to be here.
"When you get traded to a team that was in the playoffs the year before and are trying to make the next jump to a World Series contender, it's exciting. And when they think that you're one of the pieces that can get them there, it puts that pressure on you that you enjoy," Lynn said. "That's why you play the game. So I'm looking forward to that, and I'm looking forward to that all year, being a part of something special here. That's the plan."
