Sox rookie Andrew Vaughn hits first career home run

Before Wednesday night's game, White Sox hitting coach Frank Menechino didn't hide his feelings when it came to when Andrew Vaughn would hit his first home run as a major leaguer.

"F--- the home run. Let's hit .300. Then we will worry about the other stuff later."

Well, later arrived just a few hours after the words left Menechino's mouth.

Vaughn hit his first big league blast in Wednesday's duel with the division-rival Minnesota Twins, a two-run dinger off JA Happ that traveled 436 feet into the seats at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Vaughn, like his hitting coach, hasn't been worried about the lack of out-of-the-park power to this point in the season. And certainly he's been swinging a quality stick of late.

But he's been billed as a home-run hitter from the second the White Sox selected him with the No. 3 pick in the 2019 draft, making the promise of power tantalizing to many fans.

Indeed, if that element becomes a more frequent occurrence, the White Sox lineup will become even more dangerous. The team has put together one of baseball's most productive lineups without the benefit of much power. But as the weather heats up, the home runs should start flying.

The same goes for Vaughn, who is finally on the board as a big leaguer.
