Mercedes has ‘Yerminator' nickname made into hairstyle

The Yerminator has been a nickname, a T-shirt and a burger.

And now, the Chicago White Sox rookie has made it into a hairstyle.

Yermín Mercedes showed off his new hairdo ahead of Sunday's game against the Detroit Tigers, which features his nickname shaved into the side of his head.

It's quite the look for the big hitter with the big personality and no surprise, really, for someone who's reveled in his stardom on the South Side during a hot start to his rookie season. Mercedes was a huge fan of his burger, chowing down on a pair before a big game earlier this year, and he's often discussed his appreciation of being an instant fan favorite.

He's playing to the crowd with his new hairstyle. We'll see if it helps him at the plate. He got off an 0-for-25 schneid with a walk-off single Friday night and blasted a deep fly ball in a big pinch-hit appearance Saturday, barely missing a home run. But after starting May with a .415 batting average, he came into Sunday with that number more than .100 points lower, at .296.

Perhaps the new look will help get Mercedes back north of .300.
