White Sox, Yankees to play 2020 regular-season game at Iowa's Field of Dreams

Major League Baseball is building it, and it's a pretty safe bet that they will come.

The White Sox will be involved in something pretty cool next season, a regular-season game played at the "Field of Dreams" set in Iowa. The South Siders will make the roughly four-hour drive to Dyersville, Iowa, and serve as the home team against the New York Yankees on Aug. 13 of next year.

According to the league's announcement, a temporary, 8,000-seat ballpark will be constructed next to the famous field from the 1989 movie, with a pathway through the cornfield linking the two diamonds. There will be windows in the outfield wall so the cornfields are visible. With the White Sox as the home team, the temporary ballpark will incorporate design elements of Old Comiskey Park, including the shape of the outfield and bullpens beyond the center-field wall. Construction on that park will start this month.

Here's a rendering of the ballpark:

Just one game will be played in Iowa, with an off day following this contest before the teams resume a three-game weekend series at Guaranteed Rate Field on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 15 and 16.

This will be the first major league game played in Iowa, following other unique locations for regular-season contests such as Fort Bragg in North Carolina, the College World Series in Nebraska and the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, as well as international games in Puerto Rico, Mexico and England.

As for White Sox fans hoping to attend the game, the league plans to announce details on the limited ticket availability in the coming months.
