Youkilis leaves game with sprained ankle

White Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis left Wednesday's game in the fourth inning with what was ruled a sprained left ankle. Eduardo Escobar pinch-hit for him in the bottom of the fourth and took his spot at third base.

Youkilis was 1-2 with an RBI single in the game. On the season, he's hitting .249.333.415 and has 20 RBIs in 25 games since joining the White Sox.

The 33-year-old Youkilis missed nearly a month earlier this season with a back problem, and missed a game last week with a tight hamstring.

The White Sox may turn to Escobar to take the lion's share of playing time at third base if Youkilis needs to miss an extended period of time. Since the White Sox acquired Youkilis June 24, Orlando Hudson has only started twice.

Opening day third baseman Brent Morel, who hasn't played in the majors since May 17, is currently on his second minor-league rehab assignment. In five games with Single-A Winston-Salem, Morel has one hit -- a double -- with one walk and two strikeouts in 14 trips to the plate.
