Four-star power forward becomes Indiana’s first 2015 commitment

2014 Nike EYBL. Session #2. Dallas.

Jon Lopez

Indiana landed its first verbal commitment in the Class of 2015 Wednesday evening, as four-star power forward Juwan Morgan announced his decision to play for Tom Crean. The Hoosiers were one of two schools still in play for the 6-foot-8 Morgan, who on Sunday narrowed his choices down to Indiana and Vanderbilt.

Indiana and Vanderbilt were the only schools to host Morgan on official visits, with the Hoosiers doing so last weekend. Front court depth is an issue Indiana will have to navigate in 2014-15, which made the need to land front court prospects in the Class of 2015 all the more important. Landing a commitment from Morgan, who averaged 19 points and ten rebounds per game at Waynesville HS in Waynesville, Missouri, is a good first step for Indiana.

On the current roster Indiana has three sophomores and four freshmen in their front court, with junior Hanner Mosquera-Perea being the lone scholarship upperclassman. Amongst the underclassmen sophomore Troy Williams is Indiana’s most productive returnee, as he started all 32 games as a freshman and averaged 7.3 points and 4.4 rebounds per contest.

Morgan cited academics, player development and the opportunity to earn playing time when discussing what he was looking for in the school he would ultimately pick.
