Gonzaga freshman out for the season with knee injury

Gonzaga will be without freshman big man Jacob Larsen as the school announced on Friday night that the native on Denmark suffered a season-ending knee injury.

The 6-foot-11, 227-pound Larsen was injured during practice as his injury will likely result in him redshirting this season.

Larsen became a noted prospect during the 2013 FIBA U16 Division B European Championships as he earned MVP honors by averaging 20.0 points and 12.1 rebounds per game. Although Larsen has shown upside as a prospect, Gonzaga is deep on the interior this season so they can likely withstand this loss for the season.

Senior Przemak Karnowski is back along with redshirt junior Ryan Edwards and McDonald’s All-American freshman center Zach Collins also joins the rotation at center. The Zags also have Missouri transfer Johnathan Williams eligible at forward along with French freshman Killian Tillie. Larsen’s injury is definitely no good for his long-term development and short-term health, but Gonzaga should be able to win this season without him.
