The NCAA seeding committee chairman confirmed what bracketologists have been writing for months: Kentucky and Syracuse are locks as No. 1 seeds.

That’s what counts as a teaser for Selection Sunday.

Jeff Hathaway, the committee chairman, essentially handed the Wildcats and Orange – teams that are a combined 60-2 and have been 1-2 in the polls for weeks – two of the top seeds for the 2012 NCAA tournament during Wednesday’s teleconference call.

“I think we all agree that if the season ended today, we know who the two best teams are,” he said Wednesday. “If you’re looking at 3 and 4 on the first line and the entire second line, we have the same handful of teams in mind but where they would be laced will be a tremendous debate.”

As for every other team, Hathaway lumped in Duke, Kansas, North Carolina, Missouri and Michigan State as the teams in the running for the other two No. 1 seeds.
