Huggins back at it after rib injuries

Bob Huggins is back at work after breaking seven ribs during a fall at his Las Vegas hotel room last month. West Virginia’s coach is “sore,” but there was a silver lining to his accident.

“The good thing about getting hurt is they (the recruits) call you,” Huggins told Jeff Goodman. “All I’ve done for the past couple weeks is rest. There’s really not much doctors can do for you.”

Who knew hurting oneself on the recruiting trail wouldn’t sink ones recruiting?

Huggins, 56, was in his room packing and talking on the phone when he became light-headed and fell onto the corner of a coffee table. He told Goodman that the combination of an empty stomach and his medication caused the light-headedness, while the phone kept him from completely breaking his fall.

His brother took him to the hospital and Huggins spent the rest of the recruiting period in Florida, resting with his wife and children. The non-stop July recruiting is a bear.

“I’m not getting any younger,” Huggins told Goodman. “But it’s tough in July because we don’t stop. We run from city to city and gym to gym.”
