Iowa took a hit to its roster on Monday as lightly-used point guard Trey Dickerson was released from his scholarship and will transfer, according to the school.

“We appreciate the contributions Trey made during his time here,” Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery said in the release. “Trey has a bright future and we wish him all the best moving forward.”

The 6-foot sophomore was a junior-college transfer from Williston State and never quite found his footing in the Iowa rotation. Dickerson played in 15 games in the 2014-15 season, averaging 2.7 points and 1.2 assists per game. The native of New York only played in three of the Hawkeyes’ last 14 games.

After finishing out the spring semester, Dickerson will officially find a new program. He’ll likely have to sit out a season due to NCAA transfer regulations.

The Hawkeyes are fighting for a NCAA Tournament berth, but Dickerson wasn’t seeing regular minutes and shouldn’t hinder their fight for that cause.
