No update yet on Tony Mitchell

It hasn’t gotten nearly as much attention as the wait for Josh Selby and Enes Kanter has, but Missouri has their own recruit in the midst on an eligibility battle.

If you remember, Tony Mitchell, a 6'8" combo-forward that was a five-star recruit, was embroiled in an academic scandal at the high school he went to in Dallas for his senior season. The NCAA ruled him ineligible for the first semester this season, but the Tigers were hopeful he would be allowed to play come conference season.

Mike Anderson was asked about Mitchell’s status with the NCAA at Monday’s Big XII Teleconference. Did he have an update?

Of course not:

As the first semester ends at Mizzou, the status of 5-star basketball recruit Tony Mitchell appears no more clear than it did when the semester started, and coach Mike Anderson expressed optimism that Mitchell could join the team at mid-year.

“It’s still a process where we’re just waiting, waiting and seeing what’s going to take place,” Anderson said Monday morning.

Mizzou finishes up the first semester at the end of the week, meaning that Mitchell would be able to join the team if he could get himself eligible. With the second semester still week away from beginning, he has some time to take care of what he needs to.

Looks like Mizzou will continue to play the waiting game.
