Through Notre Dame’s first seven games of the season 6-foot-8 forward V.J. Beachem was a valuable reserve, averaging 8.4 points in 16 minutes of action per contest. Having Beachem gave Notre Dame another shooter to call upon, with the sophomore shooting 57.1% from the field and 55.6% from beyond the arc.

Unfortunately for head coach Mike Brey he’ll have to look elsewhere for bench production the next few weeks, as it was reported Wednesday that Beachem is out with a torn plantar fascia in his foot. According to reports the injury is expected to sideline Beachem for up to four weeks.

Of Beachem’s 20 made field goals this season 15 have been three-pointers, with the forward having made 11 three-pointers (in 42 attempts) all of last season. None of Notre Dame’s next three reserves in regards to minutes per game, Martinas Geben (11.9 mpg), Bonzie Colson (11.0) and Austin Burgett (9.8), would be considered to be players who can pick up the slack when it comes to perimeter shooting.

However with seniors Jerian Grant and Pat Connaughton and sophomores Demetrius Jackson and Steve Vasturia in the fold, the Fighting Irish have enough to account for the loss of Beachem when it comes to perimeter shooting.
