Oklahoma’s strength and conditioning coach Jozsef Szendrei has been dismissed by the school following an extra-benefits violation, according to a report from The Oklahoman.
“Our monitoring system worked as designed and our compliance staff became aware of a violation,” OU athletic director Joe Castiglione said in the statement released on Monday night. “The resulting investigation confirmed the information we received. We are committed to a culture of compliance. Unfortunately, a breach occurred and we have taken the corrective action we believe to be appropriate.”
Here’s what we know based on what is being reported at this point: A booster gave a staffer for the program a stack of cash to give to the players during Oklahoma’s trip to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis.
And that’s it.
It’s unclear whether or not any players actually got their hands on that money. It’s also unclear if any punishment is going to come down from the NCAA on this. OU is already working with the enforcement staff, and that’s before you consider the timing of it; Oklahoma was still on probation from the $3,000 that a financial adviser had given ‘Tiny’ Gallon during the Jeff Capel era.
