Sterling Gibbs will be transferring out of Seton Hall and will be eligible immediately should he receive a graduate transfer waiver from the NCAA. He’ll immediately become one of the nation’s most sought-after graduate transfers.

The news was first reported by Alex Kline.

Gibbs averaged 16.3 points and 3.8 assists while shooting 43.6 percent from three for the Pirates as a redshirt junior, playing a starring role early in the season as his team climbed into the top 25. He scored 40 points in a win over Illinois State, had 25 points and eight assists in an overtime win against St. John’s and followed that up with 20 points and four assists as Seton Hall knocked off Villanova.

But Seton Hall’s season went off the rails after that Villanova game, as the Pirates won just four games in the final two months of the season amid reports of tension in the locker room. Gibbs told reporters after the Big East tournament that he would be returning to Seton Hall.

Sterling, who began his career at Texas, is the second-oldest of the three Gibbs brothers. Ashton was an all-Big East player at Pitt and Temple is a top 100 prospect in the Class of 2016.
