Texas loses another elite 2011 prospect

Rick Barnes has commitment issues. At least when it comes to recruits.

Just a few months after DeAndre Daniels backed out of a verbal commitment with Texas, Barnes had another five-star prospect do the same. Myck Kabongo, a 6-2 point guard considered a consensus Top 15 prospect in the class of 2011, told that he’s not ruling out the Longhorns, but wants to keep his options open.

“I’m not opening it up to everybody but I’m going to open it to certain schools,” Kabongo told the website. “I’ll look at Syracuse, Duke, North Carolina, Texas and Kentucky. That’s it.”

Then again, I shouldn’t be too hard on Barnes. Every top recruiter loses out on a prospect or two. Considering the Longhorns have two elite freshmen this season in point guard Cory Joseph and forward Tristan Thompson - the positions played by Kabongo and Daniels, respectively - he ain’t doing too bad.

Besides, Kabongo says Texas remains a good option.

“Texas has done well with point guards at the next level,” he told “They’re still going to be up there.”
