Thompson hasn’t hired an agent, but he’s good as gone


Klay Thompson isn’t done with college yet. Give it a couple weeks.

The , but won’t hire an agent unless he’s sure he’ll be a first-round pick. This is merely a formality. Thompson will be playing professionally next year. He’s ready, the talent pool is shallow and he could be a lottery pick.

Those signs point to turning pro. And Thompson knows it.

“I wouldn’t say (it’s) 99 percent but I would say I’m leaning toward leaving,” .

The Pac-10’s leading scorer (21.6 points per game) is a 6-6 shooting guard who’s slated to anywhere . He’ll be vying with Colorado’s Alec Burks, Texas Jordan Hamilton and Vandy’s Jeff Taylor as the coveted wings.

At this point, the only things that would push him back to school would be an injury or if enough teams seem to be put off by his off-court arrest for misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Both are unlikely.

“Playing at the highest level with the best competition, I just get chills thinking about it. I thought I was in a good situation, so I jumped at the opportunity that was presented.

“I think you have just got to do what’s best for yourself.”
