UCLA to wear uniforms commemorating 50th anniversary of second national title January 31

adidas/UCLA Athletics

Friday morning UCLA announced that it will wear special throwback uniforms for its January 31 home game against Colorado, with the design being inspired by the jerseys worn by the team that won the program’s second national title in 1965. With this being the 50th anniversary of John Wooden winning the second of his ten national titles, UCLA will also honor the 1964-65 team on that day.

Among the players on that team were All-America guard Gail Goodrich and forward Keith Erickson, and they finished the season with a 28-2 overall record (14-0 in the Athletic Association of Western Universities, which officially became the Pac-8 in 1968). UCLA scored 100 points or more in three of their four NCAA tournament games, with the 91-80 national title game win over Michigan being the exception.

adidas, which outfits UCLA’s athletic programs, used modern technology in the construction of the uniforms while giving them a classic look with regards to the font, logos and pattern.
