Utah adds Class of 2016 junior college guard

Larry Krystkowiak

Utah picked up its first commitment in the Class of 2016 this weekend as junior college guard Jojo Zamora pledged to the Runnin’ Utes. The juco ranks have been fruitful for head coach Larry Krystkowiak as he continues to add quality talent with previous college basketball experience.

The 6-foot-2 Zamora hails from Yuba College where he had a big freshman campaign. Zamora averaged 18.3 points, 4 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game in his first season as he was 51.6 percent from the field, 43.9 percent from 3-point range and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line. The addition of Zamora should help Utah offset the loss of senior guard Brandon Taylor when he leaves after the 2015-16 season.

While the junior college ranks can be hit-or-miss, Krystkowiak seems to have found a nice place to bring in perimeter talent. Delon Wright was a juco product and Utah has Lorenzo Bonam and Gabe Bealer entering the program from junior colleges this season. The commitment of Zamora continues that recent trend and Krystkowiak can only hope one of those guys has an impact even close to Wright’s.
