Versatile forward Jalen Jenkins commits to George Mason...but for which year?

Cardinal Hayes (Bronx, NY) forward Jalen Jenkins made his college decision on Saturday, verbally committing to George Mason according to multiple outlets.

But the big question that remains to be answered in regards to Jenkins is which year will he start college: 2012 or 2013?

According to Zach Braziller of the New York Post, Jenkins has gone back and forth in regards to whether or not he’ll spend a year in prep school before going off to college.

The fact that Paul Hewitt and his staff continued to recruit Jenkins when other schools weren’t as consistent held some weight with Jenkins, and that was a reason why he chose the CAA school.

Jenkins, an All-City second team selection by The Post, chose George Mason over Rhode Island, Fordham, Manhattan, Quinnipiac, Iona and others, but he said it was really George Mason all the way. He fell in love with the campus and was comfortable with the coaching staff, notably Hewitt who was his lead recruiter.

“It’s always good when the head coach calls you – that’s who calls the shots,” Jenkins said. “It was a big sign, a sign they wanted me and saw potential in me.”

Jenkins also received interest from high-major schools such as Marquette and Providence, but he ultimately went with the Patriots for the reasons stated above.

But when will George Mason fans get to see this versatile 6-7 wing in the Mason green and Mason gold?

Jenkins is just 17 years old, meaning that he’s young for this senior class. Could that be a factor in his decision? That remains to be seen, but either way the Patriots are likely pleased with the new addition.
