Roy’s mad about UNC’s turnovers, but it wasn’t that bad
“Am I pleased about the win? You’re darn right,” Williams said. “Am I pleased about some of the turnovers? Not at all. Am I pleased about going 3-for-17 from the 3-point line? Not at all. But we have to build on this to be ready to play better in the next game.”
Maybe’s he’s right to be a little miffed. The East’s No. 2 seed let the Blackbirds hang around for much of the game despite dominating a game from their frontcourt of Tyler Zeller (32 points, 19 rebounds), John Henson (28, 11 and six blocks) and Harrison Barnes (24 and 16).
I’m sure Williams would’ve liked fewer turnovers, but considering that most of his guys have never played in the NCAA tournament, maybe this wasn’t all bad. Zeller’s one of two players remaining from their ’09 title team – also the least time the Heels were in the Big Dance.
“I think it’s one of those things that nobody has played significant minutes in the (NCAA) tournament,” Zeller said. “It’s one of those things that when you get up by 10 or 15 in a regular-season game they might just go away, but it’s their last game and they’re going to keep coming back.”
As for the 3-point shooting, that’s just how it goes sometimes. The shots don’t always fall. (Thus the routine 1.10 PPP.)
However … did you note the frontcourt production? You get 84 points and 46 rebounds from those guys and you’re set.
