In a few of months, Cal will officially be lighter at the linebacker position.
On Twitter Wednesday, Michael Barton announced that he will be transferring from Cal and continuing his playing career elsewhere. The linebacker will graduate in the spring before moving on to a to-be-determined destination.
As he will be a graduate transfer, Barton would be eligible to play immediately in 2016 if he ends up at another FBS school.

“We support Michael and are proud of the hard work and dedication he has put in at Cal both on the field and in the classroom in order to be on track to graduate from Cal next May,” head coach Sonny Dykes said in a statement. “We wish him the best of luck and look forward to watching him continue his academic and athletic career.”
Barton started 13 games combined in 2013 and 2014. In 2015, he played in nine games
