After it looked earlier in the week like there might be a chance that Christian Ponder wouldn’t be available for Florida State this weekend, the words coming out of Tallahassee Thursday painted a far more optimistic picture.
Ponder suffered a deep tricep contusion in the Sept. 11 loss to Oklahoma and aggravated it in the win over BYU last Saturday. He was limited in practice earlier in the week because of the injury, but head coach Jimbo Fisher all but pronounced his quarterback 100-percent healthy following today’s practice session.
“Great. I was extremely pleased today,” Fisher said when asked how his starter looked. “He threw the ball really well. He took the whole day, every rep - deep balls, underneath balls. He was good. .... I was waiting to see how the polish was at the end (of the week); timing and rhythm. When you cut reps down you always wonder about that. Shoot, I was very impressed with him. ...
“Some injuries you’ve just got to give a little time.”
Today was the Seminoles’ final practice before Saturday’s game against Wake Forest, so, unless Ponder has an off-field setback in the next 48 hours, the senior will be under center for their ACC opener.
