It was thought that the injury suffered by James Rodgers this past Saturday was fairly significant and could result in the multi-talented Oregon State wide receiver would miss an extended period of time.
That prognosis, unfortunately, turned out to be dead-nuts accurate.
Beavers head coach Mike Riley announced this evening that the knee injury Rodgers incurred in the win over then-No. 9 Arizona will knock the senior out for the remainder of the season. The school did not specify the exact nature of the injury, although it’s believed to be a torn ACL.
“We are tremendously disappointed with the news that one of our team captains and leaders is sidelined for the rest of the season,” Riley said in a statement. “I know James will stay very involved with the team during his rehabilitation process and we look forward to his return as soon as possible.”
Rodgers, who has not burned his redshirt, may be eligible for a medical hardship, and the school intends to submit the paperwork to the Pac-10 in the hopes of receiving a medical waiver that would allow Rodgers to play in 2011.
Rodgers, who is the school’s all-time leader in all-purpose yardage, leads the team with 16 catches and 215 yards. He’s also sixth in the nation in punt return average (18.3) and 18th in kickoff return average (28.7).
