Ohio State went two-for-three in draft-eligible players staying in school yesterday.
Today they kept yet another defensive starter for another season, but lost their top kick returner to a transfer.
Linebacker Ross Homan, who was widely expected to stay in school, has done just that. The Buckeyes’ leading tackler announced today via a press release that he would return for his senior season.
“I had a long talk with my parents and I want to stay at Ohio State for my senior season,” Homan said in a statement. “I look forward to being a senior leader, and helping try and lead our team to the Big Ten title and national championship. I know this upcoming year will help me improve as a player and also help our team. I believe we can even outwork ourselves from what we did this past season.
“Winning the Rose Bowl was a dream come true for me. I remember watching the 1997 game as a little kid; to get to play in the Rose Bowl and win it was something special. I believe we can have that kind of success again in 2010.”
That was the good for the Buckeyes today as Homan is a very solid member of a talented defense. The not-so-good involves Lamaar Thomas.
The wide receiver, long rumored to be a candidate for a transfer following the 2009 season, has been granted a release from his OSU scholarship.
The sophomore caught only five passes in his Buckeyes’ career, but did lead the team with an average of 20.1 yards per kick return.
