Cal QB has surgery, should be available for spring

Freshman California quarterback Jared Goff underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair an injured right shoulder. He is expected to be available for spring football practices at Cal, according to a release issued by the school.

“We are pleased that Jared is expected to make a full recovery and be back on the field for spring ball,” head coach Sonny Dykes said. “We have confidence he can build on the promising campaign he had in his first season at Cal.”

Goff suffered the right shoulder injury in Cal’s final game of the regular season last weekend against Stanford. Before the year was over, Goff set the school single-season record for most passing yards (3,508) and total offense (3,446) after starting all 12 games this season. He set a school mark for most passing yards in a single game earlier this season with 504 passing yards against Washington State and has already started to climb the Pac 12 passing record books as well.
