Clemson’s Carlos Watkins to miss WF game to attend funeral

Carlos Watkins sustained minor injuries in a car accident this past weekend that cost one young man his life. While the injuries weren’t enough to keep the defensive tackle off the field, the grieving process will.

On the Tigers’ injury report released Friday morning, Watkins was one of 12 players listed as “out” for the game against Wake Forest Saturday. The reason given is “attending funeral” of a former high school classmate who was killed in the car wreck early Sunday morning.

The car in which Watkins was a passenger hydroplaned in bad weather and slammed into an electric pole. Watkins was treated at a local hospital and released a short time later, with head coach Dabo Swinney later stating that his player was lucky to be alive..

Another Clemson player, defensive end Dane Rogers, is also listed as out for the Wake game for the same reason as Watkins.

In injury-related Tigers news, Gifford Timothy, listed as the starting right tackle on the most recent depth chart, has also been ruled out. Timothy started 11 games as a redshirt sophomore last season.
