Citing multiple unnamed sources, the Daily Oklahoman reported yesterday evening that running back Kye Staley would miss the 2009 season with an ACL tear.
Unfortunately for the Cowboys, the Oklahoman‘s report was dead-nuts on as the school announced this evening they would be without the back in ’09.
“It pains us to see Kye get hurt. We wish him the best in a speedy recovery and we look forward to his return,” Gundy said in a prepared statement. “He worked very hard in the offseason and even though we know injuries are a part of the game, it’s a very difficult thing to endure.”
Given the Cowboys’ depth at the position, it’s not a huge loss for their high-powered offense, but the redshirt freshman had impressed the coaching staff this offseason after shedding almost 30 pounds.
