Dad of Terps QB wants AD ousted

To say that Maryland quarterback Chris Turner is embattled would be an understatement. As the player in charge of a disappointing 2-5 team, Turner has struggled on the field and been roundly criticized off of it.

Now, Turner’s father has taken to the Internet to vent his frustration over the state of the football program. And calling for the ouster of athletic director Debbie Yow.

According to the Baltimore Sun, John Turner posted on a prominent Maryland message board over the weekend, and left no gray area as to his feelings toward the AD.

Get rid of Yow,” the post read. “And you might have a chance on being decent in football and basketball. Shes [sic] the absolute worst and will destroy your program! TRUST ME!”

When contacted by the Sun, the elder Turner expounded on his web feelings.

“I just fully support the football program,” John Turner said in an interview Tuesday in which he confirmed beginning the thread. “I know I’m one small voice, but I believe in what those guys are doing and I want to stand behind them. This was a weekend where I really felt strongly for the football program.”

For her part, Yow, who hadn’t seen the post in question, doesn’t seem inclined to become engaged in thread warfare with Turner.

“My occasional interactions with Chris’ dad have been positive and pleasant in nature,” Yow told the paper in an email. “So, I’d only be guessing as to who or what would influence him to say that at this time.”
