Deon Bush medically cleared; status for Miami’s opener unclear

While there was good news for Miami on the medical front, it remains unknown whether or not the Hurricanes will or won’t be without a key piece of its defensive puzzle for the opener.

During a teleconference Wednesday, head coach Al Golden stated that defensive back Deon Bush has been medically cleared by UM’s medical staff to play. Bush suffered a sports hernia in June, which has caused him to miss part of summer camp.

The coach said it’ll be up to the safety, essentially, whether he plays in the opener Friday night against FAU.

“I don’t know. It’s up in the air right now. He’s cleared to play, so it’s just a function of how comfortable he feels,” Golden said.. “If Deon feels comfortable and wants to move forward, then we’ll move forward with him. Deon’s smart, so it’s not going to be a function of him not understanding the defense or anything like that. . . . We’ll just monitor his progress and see how he is.”

As a true freshman in 2012, Bush played in 10 games, starting six of those contests. He was atop the depth chart throughout the offseason prior to his injury.
