ECU’s Lincoln Riley headed to Sooners as OC?

Since Oklahoma parted ways with both of its offensive coordinators, Lincoln Riley has been mentioned as a potential replacement. Tonight, it appears that speculation is about to become a reality. Maybe.

According to television broadcaster Dean Blevins, OU is set to name Riley as its sole offensive coordinator. Blevins writes that “Mike Leach and Hal Mumme gave rave reviews of Riley, who was a walk-on quarterback at Texas Tech and spent seven seasons in the Tech system.”

There is, though, at least one report that taps the brakes on an imminent hire.

Regardless of what ultimately happens with the Sooners, the 31-year-old Riley is widely considered one of the top young offensive minds in the game.

In his five seasons at East Carolina, the Pirates have totaled the five highest single-season passing totals in the school’s history. Prior to that, Riley spent three seasons as the receiving coach with the Red Raiders.

Riley would replace Josh Heupel and Jay Norvell, who were both dismissed as co-coordinators earlier this month.
