Ex-Michigan RB goes directional, officially transfers to Chips

In January, Thomas Rawls was one of three players granted a release from their Michigan scholarships. At the time, the speculation was that the running back would end up staying in-state.

Nearly six months later, that speculation has officially come to fruition.

In a release, Central Michigan announced that Rawls has transferred into the football program. Rawls’ addition adds to what’s already a talented group at the position.

“We are looking forward to Thomas joining our program and helping us compete for a championship.” head coach Dan Enos said in a statement. “He is a hard working, talented player who will bring depth and leadership to our running backs unit. I feel like we have one of the deepest groups of running backs in the Mid-American Conference.”

Rawls has already graduated from UM, meaning he’s eligible to play immediately in 2014.

A three-star member of the Wolverines’ 2011 recruiting class, Rawls was rated as the No. 19 player at any position in the state of Michigan for that cycle. During his three seasons in Ann Arbor, Rawls appeared in 27 games and rushed for 333 yards and five touchdowns on 73 carries.
