In early June, erstwhile Tennessee defensive lineman Malik Brown acknowledged that Syracuse was a potential transfer landing spot.
Instead, the lineman is looking to a campus about 450 miles to the west to continue his collegiate playing career.
While Bowling Green has yet to announce it, Brown confirmed to the Palm Beach Post that he has decided to transfer to the Falcons. Brown said he left the Vols because injuries left his standing with the program up in the air.
“It’s a real good move,” Brown told the Post. “My health is 100 percent. I’m ready to play now.”
While it was originally thought that, because of NCAA transfer rules, Brown would be forced to sit out the 2014 season, the paper notes that the player is awaiting clearance from the NCAA that would give him immediate eligibility. How that’s possible for the Florida native is unknown.
A three-star member of UT’s 2013 recruiting class, Brown took a redshirt as a true freshman.
Brown is the second player from a Power Five conference to land at BGSU in the last couple of weeks as former Baylor wide receiver Robbie Rhodes transferred into the program late last month. Brown and Rhodes, incidentally, are roommates.
Rhodes himself is seeking a waiver as well that would grant him immediate eligibility.
