FAU loses one of its top defensive players for rest of 2015 to injury

Just ahead of its in-state showdown with Miami Friday night, FAU has learned that it will be depleted on the defensive side of the ball.

Robert Relf has been dealing with a lingering right shoulder issue that initially surfaced during summer camp. In the opener against Tulsa last weekend, Relf (pictured, No. 43) aggravated the injury enough that he will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2015 season.

Shutting Relf down now will allow the linebacker to take a medical redshirt and retain two seasons of eligibility beginning in 2016.

After playing in six games as a true freshman, Relf started all 11 games in which he played in 2014. His 65 tackles were fourth on the team and second among returning Owls this season.

He started the 2015 opener before leaving the game in the first half with what turned out to be the season-ending aggravation.
