Earlier this week Bob Stoops decided it was a good opportunity to give his football team a day off from spring practice and join them at an on-campus protest against a racist fraternity video. On Wednesday, Oklahoma opted not to hold spring practice once again.
Losing two practices in the fall would be much more detrimental to a team losing a pair of practices in the spring. Whether Oklahoma will make-up the lost practice time or not remains to be seen, but the decision to scrap a second practice helps strengthen the focus on the bigger picture. Some may see canceling a second practice as overkill, but sometimes some issues are a bit bigger than sports.
Oklahoma’s spring game scheduled for April 11. As of now, the loss of two spring practices does not have any impact on that date. Oklahoma assistant athletics director Pete Moris says the spring game will still be held the same day.
