Four-star Miami QB signee hit with charges in single-car crash

One member of Miami’s 2013 recruiting class has yet to bring his luggage onto campus, but, when he does, he’ll already have some off-field baggage in tow as well.

First reported by his hometown newspaper in Wayne, NJ, Kevin Olsen has been hit with multiple charges following a one-car accident last month. The quarterback, the Wayne Patch reports, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident and careless driving following the May 25 incident.

A bystander told local police that he/she saw Olsen crash his SUV into a tree (not pictured) and, well...

The witness said he saw a black sport utility vehicle, which Olsen was driving, backing up away from a tree that it appeared to hit. Olsen reportedly exited the vehicle, surveyed the damage to the car, got back into the vehicle, and left.

But before leaving the neighborhood, police said Olsen struck another vehicle that was parked on the road. Olsen then exited his car a second time and walked away from the scene, according to the report.

The police report added that “Olsen’s face appeared to have blood on it and that he ‘appeared to be under the influence of something.’” Olsen’s license was also found near the scene of the accident by a resident in the neighborhood, the police report stated.

None of the charges Olsen is facing are felonies as the accident did not result in any serious bodily injury. A court date on the misdemeanor charges has been set for June 20, six days before Olsen’s high school graduation.

Olsen was a four-star member of the Hurricanes’ 2013 recruiting class, rated as the No. 12 pro-style quarterback in the country and the No. 5 player in the state of New Jersey by Rivals.com. He is the younger brother of former Hurricane standout Greg Olsen.
