Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is wasting no time changing the way the Bulldogs operate. This weekend will see Georgia host its first freshman day in program history, a day on the recruiting calendar specifically set aside to get to know potential recruits for the Class of 2019. By the looks of it, the brand new event on Georgia’s campus is already generating some buzz in the recruiting game.

Similar recruiting strategies have been used before, of course. Junior days are among the most notable recruiting days on calendars for a number of programs, but freshmen days are a bit more rare. Mark Richt never used one during his time as Bulldogs head coach, but Smart is looking to build every possible advantage he can to establish himself as a big player in recruiting in the competitive hotbed of football talent in the south. It’s a smart move by Smart as he takes on his first head coaching gig.
