It was close for a quarter or so. Just enough to ruffle some feathers.
But then Oregon’s potent offense broke loose against upset-minded Oregon State and now Chip Kelly, in just his second year as head coach, will lead his team to the BCS National Championship where they will likely face Auburn, who currently leads South Carolina comfortably.
Eat your heart out, Mike Bellotti.
All year long, Kelly’s philosophy has been “win the day” and his team has responded. Oregon might be the most disciplined, precise team in the country. They’ve executed their game plan better than anyone.
Now, they’ll take that game plan to Glendale in hopes of winning their first national championship in football.
And they’ll be ready, too. Kelly has been a mastermind of keeping his team focused throughout the season. Sure, there have been imperfections along the way, but each and every time, his team has overcome adversity and today’s slow start against their in-state rival was no different. Oregon is simply a mentally tough team.
Whether it’s Auburn, TCU or anyone else who lines up on the opposite side of the ball, the National Championship is a better game with Oregon in it.
