As you’ve no doubt heard by now, Florida hired Charlie Weis earlier this month to be new head coach Will Muschamp‘s first offensive coordinator.
However, if the head coach at a Big 12 power had his way, Weis would’ve been headed to the great state of Texas.
According to Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman, and citing a pair of unnamed sources, Weis was Mack Brown‘s first choice to become Texas’ coordinator after Greg Davis resigned his long-time post. It appears, though, that Weis’ son and the relationship he had developed with Muschamp -- UT’s defensive coordinator before being hired as UF’s coach -- led Weis to leave his job as the coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs for the same position with the Gators.
With Weis out of the picture, Brown turned his attention to several other candidates, including Wisconsin’s Paul Chryst, before hiring Boise State’s Bryan Harsin as and promoting Major Applewhite to co-coordinators.
