‘Horns to be without leading receiver for Red River Rivalry

Less than 24 hours ahead of their annual rivalry game with Oklahoma, Texas has suffered a fairly significant blow to their offense.

According to the Austin American-Statesman, wide receiver Mike Davis has been ruled out of this weekend’s game due to an injured left knee. Davis missed most of the second half of last Saturday’s loss to UCLA because of the injury.

As noted by the paper, Davis has become a favorite target of quarterback Garrett Gilbert, so the effect his loss has on an offense already struggling through fits of inconsistency cannot be overstated.

Senior John Chiles is expected to replace Davis.

The freshman’s 16 receptions are tops on the team, and his 183 yards receiving are second behind James Kirkendoll. Davis also has two of the Longhorns’ four touchdown receptions.
