For Kevin Lopina, his up and down senior season has officially come full circle.
Lopina began the season as Washington State’s starting quarterback, was benched midway through the season, and is now -- thanks to injury -- back under center for the Cougars.
With starter Jeff Tuel still suffering from an injured kneecap, WSU head coach Paul Wulff will turn to Lopina for the Cougars’ Apple Cup game with Washington.
“The plan is definitely to start Kevin Lopina and there’s a chance you could see Marshall Lobbestael or Jeff,” Wulff said. “It just depends on how they continue to practice through the week.”
Wulff later stated that there’s “a remote chance” Tuel will be able to play. The one thing the coaching staff is concerned about is Tuel -- who has emerged as the quarterback of the future for the program -- suffering further damage to the kneecap or the surrounding areas if he were to play.
