Unable to make much of a dent in Notre Dame’s defensive line rotation this spring, Grant Blankenship now has an additional hurdle to seeing more time on the playing field.
Ahead of Saturday’s spring game, head coach Brian Kelly announced that the defensive end has been indefinitely suspended from the Irish football program. The only stated reason was the catch-all unspecified violations of team rules.
“The standards that are set within the program have not been met,” Kelly said. “I’ll meet with him after the spring game and we’ll decide what the course is from here on out.”
Blankenship was a three-star member of the Irish’s 2014 recruiting class, rated as the No. 29 strongside end in the country.
As a true freshman, Blankenship played in 11 games. Last season, Blankenship’s playing time plummeted to appearances in just three games.
