Oregon State opens up the 2011 season against Sacramento State, which barring a little hint of Appalachian State combined with a pinch of Jacksonville State, should be an easy victory for the Beavers.
Still, it would be a nice insurance policy if Mike Riley‘s team had do-it-all athlete James Rodgers on the field.
That likely won’t be the case. The Oregonian is already reporting that Rodgers could be one of five Beavers to miss the season-opener. To what extent Rodgers would play after that -- OSU’s second game is a big one at Wisconsin on Setp. 10 -- is still frighteningly uncertain.
In a teleconference earlier today, Riley said that Rodgers has not been cleared to play by team medical staff. Rodgers suffered a gruesome knee injury last season against Arizona that required not one, but two offseason surgeries.
The senior has been practicing with his team on a limited basis during preseason camps, but little is known about how ready Rodgers will be once OSU goes full speed into the season.
